The Effect of the Crusades on the Economic System
Before Crusades
Before the Crusades, the King, Church, Pope, and nobles held the most power. In terms of the economic system, people got what they needed by the manor system, feudal system, and harvesting crops. Their hygienes were terrible. Peasants worked all of the time, so the majority of the population were farmers. Education wasn't something that most people got. The Church was respected because it was considered a "pathway" to God. The Crusades started 1046 CE and ended in 1270 CE.

After Crusades
In the economic system, the time period after the Crusades was a time of great wealth. Crusade war routes became trade routes. Classical texts were brought back to Europe, and a new interest in art and architecture arose. The cities became more populated.Technologically, ship and map making improved. Geographically, there was a redistribution of land so that power was more spread out to different/more people than before. Socially, lords and nobles lost a lot of power. The Church also lost power, because people started to question Christianity and its faith. Knights gained some power. The peasants didn't get the land that was promised to them, so many of them went to larger cities. Most of all, merchants gained the MOST power because of new markets, better trade, more wealth, and political power.

As an outcome of the Black Death, the number of workers decreased, thousands of people died, and the trade died. The Plague was spread to Florence and all around the Medditaranean Basin because of the trade routes. The routes started as the Crusade routes, became the trade routes, and then the plague routes. Later, there were also peasant uprising because they wanted more money and rights. In addition, many workers left the feudal manors to move into towns and cities. At the end, the manor system declined, and was no more.
